The Hong Kong Laureate Forum’s emphasis on multidisciplinary innovation resonates deeply with my research mission to redefine thoracic oncology through computational-clinical integration. By engaging with laureates, I aim to refine methodologies for translating AI-driven predictive models—such as those I developed for optimizing cancer therapeutic protocols—into scalable clinical applications. Specifically, I seek insights into advancing robotic surgical precision and validating machine learning frameworks for early-stage cancer detection, building on my published work in Lancet Digital Health and presentations at the World Robotic Surgery Congress.
My participation will directly accelerate my efforts to bridge computational science and clinical practice. By collaborating with global experts, I intend to design adaptive trials for AI-augmented decision systems in oncology, addressing gaps in personalized treatment strategies. This forum will also empower me to disseminate my findings on data-driven interventions, fostering partnerships to tackle disparities in cancer care, as well as enhancing the discussion in precision diagnosis and treatment about thoracic cancer. Ultimately, I aim to leverage this platform to pioneer translational projects that reduce global cancer mortality, grounded in rigorous, interdisciplinary research.

My research focuses on unraveling molecular mechanisms underlying cancer therapy resistance, particularly in lung and thoracic malignancies. A central theme of my work is investigating immuno-chemoresistance and radioresistance of lung cancer. My work identifies novel targets, such as the CoQ-FSP1 axis, to overcome therapeutic resistance in cancers. Additionally, I did research in designing stimuli-responsive nanotechnologies for precise tumor detection and drug delivery, exemplified by fluorescent nanoprobes for cancer imaging. Translational efforts include multicentre studies on pan-mediastinal neoplasms and federated learning models to enhance diagnostic accuracy.
Beyond lab-based inquiry, I integrate public health perspectives, analyzing global cancer burdens (e.g., medianstinal caner, lung cancers) to inform policy. My collaborations span international institutions, including Chinese University of Hong Kong, University of Pittsburgh and Sino-German centers, fostering innovation in both basic and clinical research. As a surgeon-scientist, I aim to bridge mechanistic discoveries with clinical applications, improving outcomes through precision oncology. Concurrently, I advocate for equitable health access, informed by volunteer work in underserved regions. This dual focus—mechanistic exploration and translational impact—drives my commitment to advancing cancer therapy while addressing disparities in global healthcare.
